Lego, world-class bricklayers and specialists in property development, are among the latest contractors to have been appointed with delivering the High-Speed Railway HS2, alongside locomotive trailblazers Hornby.
The recent Notice to Proceed galvanized certain sectors and the two respected companies were among the first to announce their contracts. It is said that it will create 10,000 jobs and bring much-needed prestige to the project, as well as confidence to the markets, after what has been a contentious and rocky path for the controversial build.
Both contractors will work together to provide infrastructure and labour. Hornby will provide state of the art trains, acting as consultants for track-laying and the Green Corridor initiative. Lego’s manufacturing will operate out of their Windsor branch and they will be providing much of the manpower.
Project Manager Oleg Bevel spoke of the win: “Lego have always been industry leaders and we are confident that faced with a monumental task ahead, their dexterous workforce and engineering prowess will bring this in on time and under budget.”
Meccano and Playmobil, who were spectacularly dropped from the project in 2018 due to a cover-up scandal, are to set to appeal the decision.
